As a pervious concrete supplier, and like many businesses who are going green, Razorback Concrete is providing this innovative, low-impact, environmentally friendly product.

With over 48 years in the concrete industry, Razorback Concrete has amassed an impressively long history of offering innovative and high-tech ready-mix concrete products. With many individuals, organizations, and businesses focusing on the environment and sustainability, it is only natural that as a pervious concrete supplier, we offer this low-impact, environmentally friendly product.

Pervious concrete is known by many names, such as porous or permeable pavement. But regardless of what you call it, this is an exciting innovation in sustainable construction. One reason that builders are using pervious concrete is because of its ability to protect water quality. While it may sound odd that a type of concrete can help with water quality, the science is solid, and that is one thing that makes the use of pervious concrete so exciting.

Your pervious concrete supplier may choose this ready-mix product for flatwork applications such as parking lots, residential streets, and walkways – typically lower traffic areas. Made mainly from smaller aggregates, with a small amount of sand added to increase durability, pervious concrete is highly porous. It works as a natural filter allowing water from rain, snow, and other sources to pass through the concrete slab, and directly into the ground, thereby reducing runoff that can pollute local streams or ponds. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA, recognizes the proper use of pervious concrete as a Best Management Practice for its ability to provide effective storm water management and curb pollution.

Additionally, a pervious concrete supplier like Razorback Concrete who offers this product for low-impact development is aware of its benefit to the trees and vegetation around the application area. Not only does water go through the porous pavement surfaces to ground water sources, but it also reaches the roots of the area trees and plants. This brings water and air to root structures, and allows trees to grow and flourish even in more densely developed areas.

See pervious pavement in action! Razorback Concrete was the pervious concrete supplier for the recent MacArthur Park updates.

This ready-mix product is obviously exciting for those concerned with sustainable construction and green initiatives, but there is another reason that all developers should consider pervious concrete for their next paving application − land costs. Due to runoff water EPA regulations, real estate developments that require drainage systems, retention ponds, or large storm sewers for runoff water collection have become increasingly expensive. With pervious concrete, larger areas of property can be developed without the need for ponds, leading to more effective land use.

With so many benefits, it is easy to see why pervious concrete is growing in popularity. To learn more about this product, or any of the ready-mix products offered by pervious concrete supplier, Razorback Concrete, contact us today. While working with your Arkansas concrete supplier, you should find out what your options are. Once you know the possibilities, you may be able to take advantage of a top ready-mix concrete product or another innovative material that provides benefits to your project that you might not have thought about. One such concrete product is a called Roller Compacted Concrete.

Razorback Concrete became the first Arkansas ready-mix concrete supplier to offer this fantastic product, which is well suited for many types of projects. There are a lot of benefits to using this zero-slump cement mixture, and we want to make you aware of five of them.

Dump truck ready.

As with regular ready-mix concrete product, being able to have expertly premixed concrete can definitely increase quality and productivity. It can also cut down on required staff at a site. Unlike some products that must be delivered by a mixing truck, roller compacted concrete can be delivered in a dump truck, making your concrete ready for use and more convenient.

Versatile and durable.

We are proud to be a roller compacted concrete supplier because this durable concrete mixture is so versatile. Able to be laid quickly, RCC is waterproof and can be used throughout the entire year, which helps to ensure that your construction project won’t be delayed by temperature or weather conditions. It is also able to withstand damage from freezing and thawing (something many other basic concrete mixtures cannot), and is very strong, able to stand up under heavy or specialized loads.

Similar to working with asphalt.

Roller compacted concrete is quite workable and easy to use. Using RCC is comparable to working with asphalt. The same equipment that would be utilized for asphalt pavement construction can be used for RCC. After being delivered via dump truck, it can be roller compacted just like asphalt, making it an easy, quick process. This helps to make this concrete product good for a sub base for a parking lot or a lower speed street.

In some ways, better than asphalt.

Use of roller compacted concrete is sometimes a better option over asphalt because of its high strength. Problems such as rutting and deformities that many have with asphalt are absent with RCC, as it is strong enough to keep hold up under concentrated, heavy loads. Additionally, it manages to stay hard under high temperatures, and hydraulic fluids or fuels won’t cause roller compacted concrete to deteriorate.

Low cost.

An important factor in many construction and concrete projects, cost is definitely a benefit with roller compacted concrete. A relatively low cost option, it can make projects that might otherwise be put off because of budget restriction, realized without a great strain. This factor alone could make RCC a better choice for some.

An ideal concrete product for all types of projects, roller compacted concrete may be the answer for your residential or commercial concrete construction. Razorback Concrete is proud to be the premiere Arkansas roller compacted concrete provider. Contact us today if you would like more information about roller compacted concrete, including a free quote on your Arkansas concrete project.

While most folks associate concrete with the color gray, this isn’t your only option. Colored concrete may be a much better complement for your home or place of business. The dyed or stained concrete that we offer can look absolutely lovely and quite stunning, especially when we expertly blend the color into readymix concrete.

You can get creative with your colored concrete projects, because concrete is actually a very versatile material. We’ve seen all sorts of interesting and unique uses for concrete, and if you are planning an Arkansas concrete project, you may want to consider one of these.

A Splash of Color

When you work with a professional concrete contractor, they may be well versed in working with color. Folks can do a lot of different designs and effects with colored concrete, but sometimes keeping it simple is all you need. Instead of a plain whitish-gray walk way, you may want to consider a bold brick red, a warm fern green, or a welcoming shade of tan.

Faux Brick, Stone Pavers, or Tile

Brick, stone paver, and tile walkways and patios certainly are attractive, but you can have the same look with colored concrete. As an experienced concrete supplier, we can stain concrete in your color of choice, and you can inlay a brick or tile pattern using special textured plates. This will look like the real thing, and it will be far more durable and long lasting…at a fraction of the cost.

Faux Flagstone

Stone walkways and patios are popular too. Laying down flagstone can look lovely, but it is hard to maintain, as the stones will start to chip away in no time. Thankfully, you can get this same look from a skilled concrete contractor. Even if the cement chips, this won’t be as noticeable, especially if the stained concrete is pre-blended and the color runs through the concrete; it isn’t just a topcoat of stain.

Stone Patio

The look of stone, while a classic look, certainly lends a modern aesthetic to any environment, even your backyard. Colored, stamped concrete is becoming a popular choice for patios and pool decks, and a skilled contractor can provide this look for you with the right tools and maybe some additional dyes.

High Shine Floors

Colored concrete floors, inside and out, can bring a high-class, royal look to your home or place of business. The concrete can be polished to a high shine to provide an attractive, yet durable and low-maintenance surface. These floors can be spruced up with designs and accent colors to make the floor even more suited to your style.

While cement isn’t known for its beauty, it can really be quite stunning in the right hands. With color, new concrete can easily coordinate with your property, landscaping, or other décor. A durable material, it stands up much better than alternative materials like flagstone or tile. With the right application and proper finish, so much is possible. Razorback Concrete is excited by the flexibility that colored concrete offers, and we would love to help you with your Arkansas concrete project. Contact us today for more information about our colored readymix concrete.

Cold weather affects the way ready mix concrete sets. If the temperatures falls to 50 degrees Fahrenheit, the speed with which the concrete sets slows down dramatically. If the mercury dips below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, any setting processes stop altogether. The experts at Razorback Concrete are familiar with these problems that face any Arkansas ready mix concrete contractor doing winter concrete projects. These pros have found a couple of highly effective methods when dealing with any issues affecting your cold weather building project, which help them stay on target and save you money.

Add set accelerators. If the concrete delivery falls on a day predicted to see falling temperatures, workers add a set accelerator to the water. It speeds up the process of setting without affecting the quality of the finished product. The goal is to reach a concrete strength of 500 psi as quickly as possible. Once this is achieved, not even freezing temperatures can adversely affect the new concrete.

Use heated water in the concrete batch plant to raise mix temperature.

When you contact Razorback Concrete to discuss your building needs, the experts will first seek to pinpoint the exact amount of concrete you need to complete the project. The company’s concrete calculator tool makes it easy to decide on the exact amount of the product needed to finish the project. This cuts down on waste and cost.

Once you and the contractor know the number of you need, it is time to schedule a delivery time. Your Razorback Concrete customer service expert will check the weather forecast when scheduling an appointment that is convenient for you. At the same time, the pro will work hard to avoid periods of inclement weather. If cold weather is indeed on the horizon, delivery will most likely take place during the time of day when the temperature is the highest.

It is interesting to note that ready mix issues due to cold weather do not actually come into play unless the morning and noon temperatures – or the noon and evening temperatures – both reach or fall below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. If there is an intermission of warmer temperatures that separates the morning and evening drops, the concrete will have adequate time to set and there are no temperature problems over site batch concrete.

There is no doubt that dealing with an expert in the field of cold weather concrete application is a necessity. Whereas cold weather can greatly diminish the strength and longevity of any concrete, the proper mix and application time of the substance makes all the difference. Contact this premier Arkansas concrete supplier online today, or call Razorback Concrete’s office at 870-735-9580 to discuss your project.

In considering concrete-involved improvements you would like to make to your home, or before taking on a large concrete project for your business, it is wise to take the time to carefully choose which products and services are the best quality and value for your dollar. Going with the quickest or cheapest could lead to some costly results in the very near future, and this is never more true than when making your choice in concrete types.

Once you have decided that you will need concrete for your project, the next chore is deciding between the most popular options, ready mix concrete or site batch concrete. While both types are viable options, depending on the project, it may be more beneficial to use one type over the other.

First, an aspect to consider is the time spent preparing your concrete. While site batch mixing is time consuming due to a multitude of careful steps, exact formulas, and long stretches of time spent waiting for the concrete to set, ready mix concrete is delivered ready to use, meaning that it works around your project’s schedule and not the other way around. This also means that your ready mix concrete can be delivered to multiple sites—unlike site batch concrete which has to be mixed at the exact location it’s being used—within your project without having to worry about your concrete ruining or becoming contaminated, which leads to higher costs and expensive delays.

Comparatively, choosing ready mix over site batch concrete also means you won’t have to deal with any raw materials on site as you do with site batch mixing, which in turn, cancels out any environmental concerns you may have had to address using the site batch concrete method.

Lastly, and most importantly, when contemplating ready mix versus site batch concrete, you must keep the quality of the finished product as a primary concern. Site batching tends to have a high risk of not setting properly or being too weak to be of any use due to lack of sophistication, but a ready mix trained professional can reduce your risk by delivering a quality, guaranteed product that you can be confident in.

If you’ve decided that ready mix concrete is the better choice for your project, why not get the best value for your hard-earned dollar by choosing the premier Arkansas concrete supplier in Razorback Concrete? With over 47 years in concrete delivery excellence, 18 locations and over 100 mixer trucks, Razorback Concrete strives to make the customer and their project the number one priority day after day.
It is imperative that you get the most value and quality for your dollar. Razorback Concrete provides you the resources to do just that with their free concrete calculator tool and a host of other products and services that are guaranteed to fit your project and your budget.

In an effort to save money, you may be thinking about laying concrete yourself. One thing to understand right away is that it looks a lot easier than it actually is. If you’ve ever seen a poorly finished driveway or walkway, you can bet your bottom dollar that the work was done by an inexperienced homeowner or a frugal business owner. Without finishing the concrete properly, your home improvement project or repair job at work is sure to fall flat. Pick up a few tips for finishing concrete like a professional below.

Gather the Right Tools

Don’t make the mistake of thinking you have all the tools you need to finish your concrete properly. Exceptional concrete finishing depends on having the appropriate tools, and many of these tools aren’t things that everyday people have in their garages. You’ll need a couple of shovels, which you probably have. However, you’ll also need a jointer, wood or magnesium hand floats, a bull float with 10 feet of handles and a straight-edge board. You should also have one or two “come alongs,” which resemble wide, flat hoes. For especially professional results, it’s nice to have a power trowel too.

Get Plenty of Help

One thing’s for sure: Finishing and laying concrete is not a one-man job. From pouring concrete to finishing it, you’re going to need all the help you can get. While finishing it, you’ll need at least two people to pull the screed and another to operate the chute. You will also need to make sure that each person knows what he’s doing, or something is sure to go wrong.

Assemble Your Forms Properly

There’s no way to finish concrete properly without assembling the forms effectively. They need to be properly aligned. They also need to be set at the right grade. Before screeding, make sure that your forms are properly secured as well. To the untrained eye, the floats might seem okay. A professional can quickly tell if that’s the case or not. Without taking care with this step, the appearance of your home or commercial property could be negatively impacted.

Ensure a Flat, Attractive Finish

Nothing looks worse than concrete that isn’t flat when it is finished. The standard way to make sure of this is by using a floating form, which is also known as a pipe screed. You can use a metal pipe, or you can use a 2X2 wood board. In either case, set the float on stakes, and make sure that it’s at the right height. You should also be aware that professional companies can offer a wide variety of attractive finishes. If you handle this work yourself, your options will be very limited.

Use the Right Width

To screed effectively, you need to use the right width. The pros can often handle widths of 16 feet or more. At those widths, however, the concrete that needs to be raked can be extremely heavy and cumbersome. Without raking it away properly, the finish of the concrete will suffer. If there are only a few people available to help, stick with a width of 12 feet or less.

Exceptional service and innovative new products is what you can expect from this recognized leader in concrete technology. One of Razorback Concrete’s latest contracts with Bowman’s Works has proven to be another excellent and timely delivery for a very large project.

A Massive Project

Bowman’s Works is purchasing concrete from Razorback Concrete for a 152,000 SF expansion of Welspun Corp. near the Port of Little Rock. Welspun Corp. is an international pipe manufacturer that recently expanded its Little Rock facility. The company, which manufactures steel pipe for oil pipelines worldwide, is located on 740 acres.

Bringing Jobs to the Community

The expansion of Welspun Corp. will add 200 jobs to the Little Rock Area. The chairman of Welspun Corp., Mr. B. K. Goenka, said, “We are extremely delighted at the performance of our Little Rock facility, which has cemented the firm’s global reach in servicing some of the largest oil and gas companies in the world. We believe that this new investment will pave the way for Welspun to continue on its path of becoming one of the most respected line-pipe companies in the world and we are thankful to the City of Little Rock for the support that they have extended in fulfilling our dream.” Razorback Concrete is happy to be a part of this great investment in the community.

Excellent Quality for a Large Project

High-quality concrete is a necessity for this type of project in order to have a strong foundation that will hold up for the heavy machinery. Existing concrete was removed to make way for Razorback Concrete’s new materials. The investment by Welspun Corp. for this project was $100 million. Governor Mike Beebe said, “Welspun invested in Arkansas when the national economy was in bad shape. That faith in our workforce and our business community has paid off for both Welspun and Little Rock, and today they are reinforcing their confidence in us with another significant investment in Arkansas.”

Better Than Average

Razorback Concrete is well-known for serving the best interest of the community and stands by its promise of high standards of safety and quality assurance. The company continually strives to go above and beyond average service and this work ethic shows in every project they do. The growth of their company is a result of this great attitude.

Committed to Excellence

Welspun Corp. is on its way to becoming one of the leading global pipe manufacturers. The company shares the values of Razorback Concrete as being committed to excellence. Perhaps this is why Welspun chose the best concrete company to deliver a solid foundation for their new facility. Razorback Concrete has maintained an excellent reputation and uses only the best materials for all of their projects. If you would like more information on the Welspun Corp. project in Little Rock, an industrial sized project or a residential project, contact an expert at Razorback Concrete.
