How Do I Know Which Contractors To Trust?

There are a lot of contractors out there, and not all of them are good. Unfortunately, it can be difficult for the average homeowner to suss out the trustworthy contractors from the untrustworthy ones. To help, we’ve put together a list of the four items every homeowner should have on their checklist when vetting contractors.

License

This is an easy way to quickly rule out working with a contractor. Any contractor worth their salt will have a valid state contractor’s licence. Now, the requirements for this license vary by state. For example, some states don’t require contractors to have a license if they’re costs don’t exceed $30,000. Other states require it for as little as $1000 of material costs. Do your research for your state, and be sure to check for a valid state license before agreeing to work with a contractor.

Insurance

Much like a contractor’s license, a good contractor should also be able to provide proof of

Their general contractor’s insurance policy. This is incredibly important. If a contractor cannot provide proof of this type of insurance policy it is a huge red flag. You should never hire a contractor that does not have an up-to-date contractor’s insurance policy.

References

Most people provided references when applying for a job, and good contractors should do the same thing. Make sure to ask for, and follow up with, references before hiring a contractor. There should be no better endorsement for a good contractor than a happy customer. If a contractor doesn’t have references, run for the hills.

Portfolio

Much like customer references, contractors should have photo examples of their previous projects. These images should provide a good reference point for the type of quality you should expect from this contractor. Never hire a contractor without seeing some of their previous work.

There are thousands of good contractors out there. By taking the time to ask the right questions, you can find the perfect one for you. If you’re looking to get some concrete work done, we suggest visit www.razorbackconcrete.com
